Tuscany Truffle Hunt and Cooking Class

The upannaway team heads to Italy

As we embarked on a chilly December morning drive through the picturesque Chianti hillside, the anticipation of an incredible culinary adventure heightened with every twist and turn of the winding roads. The Loghi farm, nestled near the town of Montalcino, awaited our arrival for a truffle hunt and cooking class that promised to immerse us in the rich traditions of the region. The Berni Family, rooted in this land for over two centuries, graciously shared their passion for their home and its treasures. Founded by Gianfranco Berni, the family-run Loghi farm has become a sanctuary for the world's most sought-after white truffles.

Guided by truffle master/founder, Gianfranco and his skilled canine companion, Rosa, we embarked on a truffle hunt in the serene valley surrounding the farm. The clean and crisp air carried the earthy fragrance of truffles, creating a sensory experience that set the stage for an unforgettable day. Our team had the thrill of discovering seven white truffles and it added such an exclusive touch to the experience. The Berni family's commitment to preserving the natural landscape became evident as we reveled in the pristine surroundings.

Post-hunt, we delved into the art of Italian pasta-making with recipes passed down through generations. As music played and wine was poured, we crafted ravioli and tagliatelle infused with the aromatic richness of our truffle finds.

The recipes, deeply rooted in tradition, echoed the love and expertise found in every nonna's kitchen. :)

After our pasta-making was complete, we learned how to whip up an incredible tiramisu! We then enjoyed our home-cooked meal at a family table in front of a cozy fireplace, with more wine from the Berni family’s cellar.

The Loghi farm, with its dedication to sustainable and organic practices, has become a leader in exporting the precious truffle of the Crete Senesi, alongside its renowned wines and Tuscan extra virgin olive oil. Our truffle hunt and cooking class at Loghi not only celebrated the culinary treasures of the region but also offered a glimpse into the Berni family's enduring connection to the land and its bountiful offerings. It is not lost on us, how special and unique this day was. After six days in Tuscany, we can all agree that it was truly a highlight of our trip
